doge’s palace

A 25-minute train ride will take you to one of Venice’s most magnificent buildings: the Doge’s Palace. Next to St. Mark’s Square, you’ll find this masterpiece of Gothic architecture dating back to the 14th century.

Once the political center of the Venetian Republic, the Doge’s Palace offers a fascinating glimpse into Venice’s past. You can explore various rooms, including the Sala del Maggior Consiglio, one of the largest in Europe, adorned with works by renowned artists such as Tintoretto and Veronese. The Doge’s private quarters reveal aspects of his life, while the ancient prisons provide insight into where the famous Casanova was held.

Be sure to visit the Ponte dei Sospiri, which connects the palace to the prisons and offers a striking view of the canal below.
